In "Name of The Doctor" river attempted to slap the Doctor but the Doctor grabbed her hand now if she was infact dead then surely this wouldn't have worked??

I don't have anything against the character but the whole point was that the Doctor knew how she would sort of die and keeping her alive would just negate that.
